Channelizing our ideas- Defining the direction (Week 3)

Updated: Feb 13, 2022

As we started week 3 of our project, we had to define the problem and develop over it.
The empathy maps and user personas created in week 2, helped us define the problem :
“Create an INNOVATIVE, AFFORDABLE, COMFORTABLE, USER FRIENDLY solution to cater to patients coming from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds, for HOSPITAL and AT-HOME use.”

Owing to our defined problem, we came up with over 10 different ideas across the whole week. We had two main focus areas, one, building over the current alternating pressure system, and the other being something to make turn therapy easier. We knew that we had to include automation as it is the newest technological advance and would reduce human effort in this ever busy world.

For the primary focus area, we built more on :

  • Material. We came to a unanimous conclusion for using existing treatment and prevention dressings for patients suffering from bed sores.

  • Technology. Using pressure sensors to detect pressure changes across the body, identify susceptible areas and enable automatic pressure relief at those specific areas.

  • Innovation. The main focus here was, from a design perspective, to innovate an easier method for pressure relief.

The secondary focus area was to build something that makes turn therapy easier for the nurse or caregiver. Although we discussed this, it didn’t qualify the criteria to minimise human effort, hence it was finally discarded.

Well now that was our whole journey along the 3rd week, with increasing pressure {not the one that gives you bed sores ;) } to settle on an idea, perfect it, build a model, a prototype which we hope to get done smoothly over the course of week 4.
